Alive to the Living God
Fr. Frans Josef van Beeck, SJ, recently published God Encountered:
A Contemporary
Catholic Systematic Theology Volume Two/4: The Revelation of the
Glory—Part IVB: The Genealogy of Depravity—Living Alive
to the Living God.
This
volume of Fr. van Beeck’s successful God Encountered series,
a 432 pp paperback published by Liturgical Press (Collegeville,
MN), explores the human tendency to balk when faced with both death
and love. In this work, Fr. van Beeck operates from the historical
perspective of Jewish and Christian tradition which suggest that
we as humans often do not know or love God, the source of energy,
truth, and goodness in the universe. Fr. van Beeck echoes the great
tradition when he says the worst plight we as humans can suffer
is to turn away from God.
Fr.
van Beeck’s God Encountered series presents a thoroughly organized
and clearly articulated theological system in the Catholic tradition.
The books in the series, geared largely towards seminarians, graduate
students, and scholars, may also be read independently of one another.
Each one deals with a unique aspect of humanity’s encounter
with God.
Fr.
van Beeck is currently assigned to Loyola University Chicago , where
he is a senior professor of theology.
The
God Encountered Series is available at the Liturgical
Press Online Store.
