You're
Invited! Charis Ministries Summer Service Trip
Saturday,
June 28, 2003

Is the race and pace of life leaving you wanting more? Take time
out. Give back.
As
Christians, our faith teaches us to work towards a more just world.
“…faith without works is dead.” (James 2:26).
Jesus. St. Ignatius. Mother
Teresa. Each put faith into practice and envisioned a world of men
and women for others.
In
that spirit, you are invited on Charis’ 2003 Service Trip
to the rural town
of Idabel, a diverse, impoverished, poultry processing community
in eastern Oklahoma. Our Charis team of men and women, married or
single, in their 20s and 30s will be at the service of Fr. John
Brown and his parishioners at St. Francis de Sales. They will welcome
us at Sunday Mass before we begin our work. Our service may take
many forms – from painting and cement work to visiting with
people and working with the elderly and children.
Share
your talents.
Though no specific experience is necessary, you will have the occasion
to use your skills and to share your talents, spirit and faith while
learning about the people, faith and way of life of another community.
If you speak Spanish, have done home improvement work, like community
involvement, or enjoy working for and with other people, join your
peers for this unique service opportunity.
August
2-8, 2003
Traveling as a group in mini vans, we will depart Chicago the morning
of
Friday, August 2, 2003 and return to Chicago on August 8. Accommodations
in Oklahoma are graciously provided at the parish center and church
hall. Together we will prepare our meals there each day. Transportation
and meal cost is $200.
