Risk and Reward (Cover Story)
When the Chicago Province opened Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in
1996, no one dreamed its innovative funding model would change the
face of Catholic education in America. This story explains how it
has, by tracing the school’s development from the Province’s
move into Pilsen to the opening of the 11th “Cristo Rey model”
high school this fall.

the call to become a Jesuit Priest in a Japanese POW Camp in the
Second World War. He reflects on his three and half years there
and his life as a Jesuit, most of which was spent serving in the
mountains of Peru.
